On this occasion, the four works of the 1990s are once again presented together – for the first time in almost a decade. Richard Tuttle has juxtaposed them with newly executed works which never would have come into being without his longstanding cooperation with the Kunsthaus Zug: on the one hand a monumental, three-dimensional work of metal and polyester, and on the other hand a stupendous workgroup of coloured fabric which together constitute Replace the Abstract Picture Plane V. Tuttle highlights these with a concentrated selection of works by Fritz Wotruba from the Kamm collection which serve as references to the permanently installed sculptural works by both artists on the grounds in front of and behind the Kunsthaus Zug.

The exhibition thus directly reflects the model-like character of “Project: Collection” with which the Kunsthaus Zug ventures onto new curatorial terrain in close cooperation with artists from various countries of the world. It critically examines the fast pace of the present-day art scene and raises questions about the use of time.

With a simple, precise intervention, Richard Tuttle connects interior and exterior. In the museum he shows works by Fritz Wotruba alongside those of his own. Outside, by painting the concrete bases of Fritz Wotruba’s sculptures in grey, he draws attention to the difference between nature and art. At the same time, he places the Wotruba works within the context of his own outdoor sculpture Replace the Abstract Picture Plane II. The painted grey dividing line between the artwork and the lawn sharpens our perception of the works as well as the museum’s structural and natural surroundings.
