Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1917, Claude Loewer works and lives in Montmollin (Neuchâtel). After receiving his high school degree (baccalaureate: classical studies section), he left for Paris, where he stayed from 1936 to 1940. There he first attended the independent academies of Ranson and Cola Rossi, before studying for three years at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. He returned to Switzerland in 1940, where he settled permanently, dividing his time between easel painting and several forms of monumental art related to architecture. Loewer has executed numerous commissions for public buildings and private establishments in Switzerland and abroad, and his work has frequently gone on display in both group and solo shows.
