Pasolini drenched the sackcloth (a most
coarse tissue with tedious warps and wefts) with quicklime and glue.
He used a blend of oil and dilutant for the actual painting.
The technical drawback of the used material was in fact an artistic
stimulus for Pasolini. On the back of this canvas he painted the
"Portrait of A Young Boy". | Pasolini enduisit de chaux et de colle la toile de sac, matériau grossier et tissé de façon lâche, qui lui servit de fond. Pour la couleur, il utilisa un mélange d'huile et de détrempe. Le caractère difficile du matériau utilisé constitua pour lui une stimulation artistique. Au verso de la toile il paignit le "Portrait d'un jeune garçon"
