1990 : Started recording gay and lesbian history as a project, especially AIDS commemorations.
1992 : Began work for the State Services Commission to photograph 200 typical New Zealanders for publication as a poster and bulletin for all NZ Government agencies.
1993 : Started using models in experimental night, time lapse photography as part of gayrights political expression.
1993 : Exhibition " Look Out Gaze In " a collection of male nudes shots in the NZ bush and AIDS " Beacons of Hope " services.
1993-99 : Photographed in the USA, UK, China, Thailand and Australia.
1997 : Started a photo archive with the National Library.
1998 : Attended Fotofest and did the Charles Weber workshop.
1999 : Started " Wallis House " series.

Out of the Darkness comes Light How does one begin to tell the story of a love affair?
I have been in love with Wallis House since first I went there in 1978. It is a Christian retreat House in Lower Hutt, the nearby city to Wellington in New Zealand's North Island.

My photo series is a story about arrival at night: mystery and magic, peace and panic. Through the course of the weekend I try to show the theatre where the discovery and rehabilitation of the soul takes place. The big influence in the clearing of the mind is the house and garden. One person at Wallis House described the garden as "the kindergarten of the soul". A place where you can be a child again? The last photo in the series is leaving the House in the day time. The magic of night is gone but the firm structures of self-confidence are in place, like beams supporting a building. - The weekend is contained like a shelf of books with a night-time entry and a day time exit.

Life is full of entries and exits. What happens in between, is the magic of you, your spirit and the creator, plus food, rest and sleep.

Out of the darkness comes light.

Je suis amoureux de Wallis House depuis que je l'ai vue pour la première fois en 1978. C'est une Maison de retraite chrétienne à Lover Hutt, la ville voisine de Wellington, dans l'Ile du Nord de Nouvelle-Zélande.

Ma série de photos représente l'histoire d'une arrivée de nuit: mystère et magie, paix et panique. En l'espace d'un week-end, je tente de montrer le théâtre où se déroule la découverte et la réhabilitation de l'âme. La maison et le jardin ont une influence considérable sur l'apaisement de l'esprit. Quelqu'un à Wallis House a décrit le jardin comme "le jardin d'enfant de l'âme". Un lieu où l'on peut de nouveau être un enfant? La dernière photo de la série montre un départ de Wallis House de jour. La magie de la nuit s'en est allée mais les solides structures de la confiance en soi sont en place, semblables aux poutres de soutènement d'un immeuble.

Comme une étagère pleine de livres, le week-end tout entier se trouve enserée entre l'entrée de nuit et le départ de jour.

La vie est pleine d'entrées et de sorties. Ce qui arrive dans l'intervalle, c'est votre propre magie, votre esprit et le créateur, plus de la nourriture, du repos et du sommeil.

C'est de l'ombre que jaillit la lumière.
