Biographical Notes
1959 Graduated from the Academy of Art in Sofia, having specialized in painting under Professor Dechto Ouzounov
1961 Gold medal and first prize at the First Exhibition of Young Artists in Sofia
1969 Laureate of the Dimitrov Prize for his painting Oath.
1973 Awarded the Zakhari Zograph Prize.
1974 Awarded a prize at the International Triennial of Painting in Sofia.
1986 Awarded the Grand Prix of the Union of Bulgarian Artists.
1987 Awarded the 'Vladimir Dimitrov the Master' Prize.
Has received many other awards in Bulgaria and abroad:
Diploma for Participation, Cagnes-sur-Mer; award in the name of Irene and Peter Ludwig; International Portrait Competition, Poland, etc.; Sociter at the Salon d'Automne, Paris; corresponding member of the Academy of Arts, GDR; member of the Nika Kai Salon, Tokyo.
Since 1975 Professor at the Academy of Art in Sofia.
1973 to 1985 President of the Union of Bulgarian Artists.
1985 to 1988 Director of the National Art Gallery, Sofia.
Has participated in representative and group shows of Bulgarian art in Paris, Moscow, Leningrad, Budapest, Warsaw, Prague, Bucharest, , Vienna, Belgrade, Ankara, Athens, New Delhi, Italy, London, Havana, Lisbon, Venezuela, the USA, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Berlin, Mexico, Brussels, etc.
One-man shows in Bulgaria: Sofia, Pleven, Varna, Sliven, Rousse, Balchik, etc., and abroad: Moscow, Leningrad, Vienna, Berlin, Mexico, Budapest, Bucharest, Warsaw, Paris, Geneva.
There are works by Svetlin Roussev in: the National Art Gallery, Sofia, and in all galleries and many private collections in Bulgaria; in museums, galleries and private collections in Moscow (Pushkin Museum), Paris, London, Vienna, Aachen (collection Ludwig), Munich, Bonn, Hamburg, Berlin, Essen, the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Greece, Argentine, the USA, Venezuela, Cuba, Italy, Portugal, Bucharest, Warsaw, Dresden, Prague; Budapest, Geneva, etc.
