ENGRAVED STRUCTURES
My background began with studies in Egypt and later in Greece. My
familiarity with two classical schools and with two distinct worlds can,
perhaps, be traced in my work.
The majority of the elements which constitute my work are derived
through the observation of nature, of the environment and of optical
phenomena. I create structures and reliefs. I carve and engrave flat and
rough surfaces. I colour these surfaces after a careful observation of
light and shadow and of contrasts: black and white, or black and yellow. I
arrange my colours on this base. The initial sketches, which are the
starting point for these works, are in ink or tempera. I select the
materials which help me bring my thoughts to life and I discover their potential in
the process of using them. The material multiplies the forms of the
conceived idea.

Art, like nature, transcends the limits set by rules. When art begins to
follow a particular code, to become repetitive, it loses its
impulsiveness. It is difficult for art to accept strict geometry and function within its
rules.
This is the neverending conflict between the reason of logic and the
intuitiveness of emotion. My free and systematic approach to the work I
do, fulfils my artistic expressiveness.
