WAVES-DIAGONALS-SQUARES     My continuous research into colours has often led me to the use of various materials, such as papier mâché, in their natural colour. This eventually introduced matter into my work. It is clear that colour and matter, which gradually develop into abstract painting, combine with light in an integrated function. In my work, light has its own individual story, founded on the places where I have lived, worked and travelled.>BR> Using the compositions of this period, I managed to place matter and solid colour side by side, on the same surface. I first confronted this combination in 1978 when, in the waves, I employed a free printing technique with linoleum. I then multiplied the surfaces by adding successive layers on top of one another.

Furthering this chromatic study of matter and of the painting gesture, I proceeded to simple geometric shapes, such as the square and the parts defined by diagonals, and I progressively combined two very conflicting views.
Both in my thoughts and in bringing these to life I use the additive as well as the subtractive process. Addition allows me to enrich my surface with conflicting elements while subtraction allows me to go as far as black and white.
Through the years, my geometric work tends to become less austere and tolerates the presence of a free touch. Now my work does not preclude the painting gesture or writing, although the geometric arrangement of space romains its main feature.
